Our vision is to provide a specialist therapeutic residential service to help young people learn, grow, develop and achieve – ultimately creating happy, healthy young adults who thrive and reach their potential.

We strive to achieve the best possible sustainable outcomes for our young people by providing the best possible care. As part of this vision we want to instill confidence, coping and resilience, strong morals and values, sense of self worth and knowing that they matter. We want to support them to engage in education so they can achieve and develop skills and knowledge to lead them onto bright futures. We want to support our young people to heal emotional wounds caused by early trauma and integrate their past so they move forward positively.

We believe this can be achieved through providing a therapeutic environment for our young people. To us, this means creating a home where young people feel safe and secure. A home with a culture of openness and accepting people for who they are. A home where strong and secure relationships between staff and young people are fostered and where young people are provided with the opportunities to help them thrive. This is possible with our passionate and nurturing staff members with specialist skills and training who are qualified to a high level. Staff with understanding and resilience to weather the storms that can occur for young people who have experienced trauma; and staff that feel valued and enjoy their work. Robust systems around the child (including care staff, managers, therapy staff and other support staff) are required to support this intensive work with good communication throughout the system. It is also important not to underestimate the physical environment of the home, which we strive to make much like a family home – one that young people can be proud to live in and call home.

As therapeutic care is a core aspect of our vision, our therapeutic services are fundamental to achieving this. It is our aim to ensure that therapeutic care is integrated within every aspect of the service and at every level of the organisation. To support this work our Meadows Therapy Service has a wide range of professionals from a diverse range of backgrounds and qualifications to support multi-disciplinary working and ultimately provide a holistic approach that can support young people with wide ranging and complex needs.

Within the Meadows Care Therapy Service our core values as a team are Acceptance, Respect and Compassion:

Acceptance

At Meadows Care we understand that behaviour is about communication. We accept the feelings, thoughts and inner struggles that underlie a child’s behaviour and know that the behaviour they are presenting with is the only way they know how to communicate their needs and cope in the situation. This is not about accepting the behaviour itself but rather to help teach our young people not to feel ashamed about what is going on inside to ensure we are able to support them to develop alternative communication strategies over time.

Respect

At Meadows Care we understand that behaviour is about communication. We accept the feelings, thoughts and inner struggles that underlie a child’s behaviour and know that the behaviour they are presenting with is the only way they know how to communicate their needs and cope in the situation. This is not about accepting the behaviour itself but rather to help teach our young people not to feel ashamed about what is going on inside to ensure we are able to support them to develop alternative communication strategies over time.

Compassion

At Meadows Care we believe compassion is central to our work. Young people who experience high levels of shame and self-criticism (often rooted in developmental trauma) can have enormous difficulty in being kind to themselves. A focus on compassion in our work means a focus on developing compassionate attributes and skills, particularly those that influence emotional regulation. Our focus on compassion is not just about the young people but includes a focus on compassion with all staff within our organisation. We believe if our staff feel valued, safe and supported then this will naturally be reflected in our homes and for our young people.
